Great POV Nancy.

Artist's Description

Recognized as the founder of the Hudson River School of painting, landscape artist Thomas Cole (1841-1848) lived in this house, Cedar Grove, in Catskill, NY from the time of his marriage in 1836 until his untimely death in 1848. The surrounding landscape of the Catskill Mountains and the Hudson River, as exemplified in the view from the balcony in this picture, provided much of the inspiration for his art.
The Greene County Historical Society bought the property in 1998, and in 1999 it was declared a National Historic Site. Extensive restoration work was carried out, and in 2001, for Thomas Cole's 200th birthday, Cedar Grove was opened to the public. It is now the venue for important exhibitions and lectures related to the Hudson River School artists.

As a trained historian, one of my great passions is to photograph old buildings. Whether abandoned ruins or...
