Artist's Description
The historic Jamestown Windmill in Rhode Island was built in 1787 and was in operation until 1896. Its chief use was to grind a kind of corn native to Rhode Island that is the main ingredient in jonnycakes (a Rhode Island pancake that was once a staple of the diet). Now owned and maintained by the Jamestown Historical Society, the windmill is open to visitors on weekends between mid-June and mid-October.
