Artist's Description
The Old 5 & 10 is a piece of history right on North Conways main street. Opened by Sidney and Lillian Sweeney in 1939, it is the oldest continually operating retail store in the village. Not much has changed in its 75-plus years. It still has its original maple floors and a selection of merchandise that offers the visitor an unparalleled walk down Memory Lane.
North Conway is one of the most popular tourist destinations in New Hampshire. With its astounding natural beauty and access to a wide variety of activities, North Conway has something for everyone: Hiking, rock-climbing, canoeing, cultural activities, skiing, shopping. In the 19th century the area became popular with artists, and its own native school of art. , White Mountain Art, soon developed. Benjamin Champney, the best-known representative of White Mountain Art, has a trail named after him on the Kancamagus Highway.
