Artist's Description
Saugerties, Gateway to the Catskills, boasts a lighthouse that is also a bed-and-breakfast. The present two-story brick lighthouse replaced one that had stood here at the confluence of the Esopus Creek and the Hudson River since 1836. It has been in operation since 1869. Decommissioned in 1954, it was rescued and restored by the Saugerties Lighthouse Conservancy, who now owns and manages it, and is now open to the public as a museum as well as for overnight accommodation.
Reaching the lighthouse can be an adventure in itself. It is well signposted from the center of Saugerties. From the parking area for the Nature Trail, walk the half-mile trail to the lighthouse. The tide tables are posted at the parking area and are also accessible via a link on the lighthouse website if you want to plan for the maximum viewing opportunity.

As a trained historian, one of my great passions is to photograph old buildings. Whether abandoned ruins or...

Great image Nancy. Did you stay there? I spent one pleasant night there and it was an amazing experience I would recommend to anyone. Your images do the old place great justice.
