Description
Phoenicia is a lively town in Ulster County in New York's Catskill Mountains. Named for the ancient Middle East city that was noted for its purple dye, Phoenicia has the Esopus Creek running through it; thus it is a mecca for the sport of tubing. The Esopus flooded its banks during Hurricane Irene and washed out the bridge that connects Phoenicia with the outside world, but you can't keep good Catskillians down. They rallied, rebuilt the bridge, and the town is as thriving as ever. This image shows a close-up of some of the buildings on the right side of Main Street looking toward Mt. Tremper.
